OVERVIEW 

There are few places on Mallorca as iconic as Cala Deià, and this charming villa has a front row seat. It’s set into the cliffs overlooking the picturesque little bay and boasting stunning vistas along this scenic stretch of coast. The owner’s family built the house when there were not even roads and had to use boats and donkeys to carry everything over.

Today it’s much easier to access, via a private driveway that takes you to a peaceful and secluded row of seaside houses. The interiors have been updated, too, made up of an inviting mix of sea-blue and stone-grey walls, wood effect floors and earthy, island-style touches. There are two totally separated areas, too: upstairs are two bedrooms, living area and open kitchen, while downstairs are a further two bedrooms. The best bit? Lovely big sun-soaked terraces from where you’ll never tire of gazing over those stunning views. 

SETTING

The house is set in one of the island’s most scenic coves, a small rocky bay just a short drive from nearby Deià village. Its clear calm waters make it a lovely spot for swimming and snorkelling, as well as a starting point for some top walking trails. Deià itself is amongst Mallorca’s best-loved destinations, thanks to its unspoiled serenity and superb scenic surrounds. 

A 20-minute drive south is the similarly gorgeous Valldemossa, while in the other direction is the sweeping sandy bay of Port de Sóller.  The capital, Palma, and the airport are around 35 minutes by road. 

SLEEPING

The house has four bedrooms, three doubles and one twin, sleeping up to eight guests. Some of the rooms have ensuite bathrooms with walk-in rainfall showers, as well as small terraces with stunning views over the water. Decor is smart and contemporary, with backlit panelling and concrete-effect plastering, plus all rooms come with heating and air conditioning.

RELAXING

While there’s no swimming pool, you can enjoy the villa’s large hot tub with massage jets while soaking up the views. There’s also plenty of sunloungers dotted around the pretty flower-filled terraces and a corner sofa perfect for evening sundowners. Inside, a small lounge area also offers comfy seating an a big wall-mounted TV. 

EATING 

The well-equipped kitchen here has everything you’ll need to cook your own meals, including a Smeg fridge-freezer and coffee machine. Outside on the terrace, a charcoal-fired barbecue provides the options of cooking alfresco. 

For eating out you have one of Mallorca’s most iconic restaurants practically on your doorstep – C’as Petro March, serving freshly grilled seafood waterside. Right on the beach is also the lesser-known, but still excellent, Ca’n Lluc Restaurant. For fine-dining head to La Residencia hotel, just on the outskirt of Deià village.
