MONT ALT – SELVA

Superb rural villa with bay views

OVERVIEW 

While no villa can have it all, the wonderful Mont Alt comes pretty close. First off, with its wooden shuttered windows, terracotta tiling and whitewashed facade, the building is a fabulously traditional affair awash with rustic charm. Step inside, and interiors are as cosy as they are cosmopolitan, full of exotic furnishings, playful contemporary artworks and high-tech features. 

The surroundings score high on wow-factor, too, being part of an ecological estate in the north Mallorcan countryside. The 20-hectares of gardens are brimming with fragrant plants and Mediterranean flora, while offering sweeping views of lush vineyards, Tramuntana sierra and Alcúdia Bay in the distance. Sun-drenched wood decking circle a shimmering pool, while shaded terraces are perfect for lingering alfresco lunches. 

It all adds up to one of Mallorca’s top villas and a great place to stay for an unforgettable time on the island. 

SETTING

Located between the picturesque towns of Selva and Moscari, the villa is also part of an estate that produces some excellent organic wines. It’s the higher of two villas that share the grounds, with the Tramuntana sierra providing a dramatic backdrop to this slice of rustic bliss.  

There are lovely villages in the Tramuntana foothills to explore nearby, which are also starting points for some incredible hiking trails.  It’s also just a 25-minute drive to Alcúdia Bay and some of the island’s finest beaches. And 30 minutes the other direction is the buzzing capital and its international airport. 

SLEEPING

The villa has five bedrooms, each individually styled in calming tones with handpicked selection of Moroccan rugs, original artworks and exotic furnishings. Super comfortable Schramm beds come topped with crisp cotton linen sheets, with a choice of double or twin. All rooms extend to their own bathroom with walk-in rainfall showers, plus some feature twin stone sinks. There’s air conditioning and underfloor heating in all rooms, too. 

Two of the five are more the spacious master suites, which also come with curved smart TVs and French doors leading directly out onto the pool deck. 

RELAXING

Chances are you’ll be spending most of your time poolside on a comfy ‘wave’ lounger with individual sail parasol. The mosaic-tiled pool itself is more than big enough for a decent swim, and can also be heated if you need to take the chill off. Recreation comes in the form of an artificial grass tennis court, complete with spectators courtside lounge, plus there’s a pool table inside the house. There’s a snug cinema room, too, with 4K projector and a sink-into leather sofa for watching satellite TV or movies.  

EATING 

The villa’s open plan Bulthaup kitchen provides cooks with a top-notch La Cornue oven, gas stove and stone worktops. The adjoining dining area seats up to eight, or outside a covered terrace offers alfresco dining for up to 12 – with bay views. Fancy cooking with fire? There’s a barbecue too. 

For eating out, it’s a short stroll into the neighbouring village of Moscari which has a couple family-friendly restaurants. Nearby Selva also offers some top eateries with fabulous vistas.
