Once the typical summer season of beach days, and poolside tanning is over in Mallorca, the Autumn season brings weather that’s perfectly suited to exploring the island throughout the day which is why many of Mallorca’s annual food festivals are held at this time of year. Even the smallest of towns hold their own yearly events to showcase the local produce they are well-known for.
Of course we’ve been out and about to experience them all over the years, and have a few favourites we think you might like too…
Dijous Bo
15 November
This first one is literally just days away; Mallorca’s largest traditional festival held over in the town of ‘Inca’, renowned for bringing the island together. This great event attracts around 200,000 people from all over, as it’s an all-day event filled with fun for the whole family, held in Inca’s streets.
Here you’ll find cultural and sporting events, some even starting a few days before, including a rally and chess competitions. Historically, the Dijous Bo fair was actually a cattle market, which still prevails, however the event is now better known for the fantastic selection of Mallorcan produce available such as leather goods, arts and crafts and local foods. In addition, there are fun fair rides for all ages, various company presentations, competitions and music to enjoy throughout the day.
To reach the fair, you can either catch the train from Palma to Inca, drive or take a taxi, however we advise to leave early to avoid traffic and finding somewhere to park in Inca.
Fira de s’Oliva
17 & 18 November
This brilliant weekend event is held over in the pretty village of Caimari famous for “Mallorca’s liquid gold” aka olive oil. To celebrate the famous oil which can be purchased all over the island, you can visit the village’s original olive press and see how the oil is made.
The tiny Caimari village is home to just 750 inhabitants, and is situated far from the beaten tracks in a hidden valley filled with almond and olive trees, where time quite literally stands still. However, over this weekend, the quaint village square is transformed and is bursting with people from all over and lined with stalls offering many different typical Mallorcan products.
Saturday’s tend to be a little quieter, so this is the day for you in you’re not one for crowds. On Sunday the little village is so busy that the cars are backed up to the neighbouring village of Selva.
Feria Setas Mallorca
23 – 25 November
Taking place right in the middle of the “mushroom season”, is this traditional festival dedicated to the famous “esclata-sang ” mushroom variety, located in the Mancor de la Vall district.
The fair starts on Friday afternoon with children’s activities before the “Nit de Foc” (“Night of Fire”) parade kicks off, followed by assorted musical performances. On Saturday the artisan show commences with all kinds of activities to enjoy, as well as a big family friendly parade and popular concert.
On Sunday, the exhibitions start with demonstrations of field work, mountain life, hunting, embroidery and shoe production. There’s traditional music and dances to watch too, but of course the main attraction is the mushroom tasting.
Mancor de la Vall is located less than 5 km from Inca and is easy accessible, by road or train, to Lloseta or the city of Inca itself.
Ta Palma
26 November – 2 December
This is great gastronomic event celebrating tapas and cocktails is held right in the city centre of Palma, and is not to be missed!
This excellent event now in its 13th year, welcomes thousands of visitors to Palma over the five day festival to sample both contemporary and traditional tapas in over 30 restaurants and bars in the city at just €2 each.
The festival is planned into eight tapas routes to take you through some of Palma’s most fascinating areas, including as Portixol and Santa Catalina.
Venues open from 12.30 until 16.00 and again from 19.30 until midnight, providing plenty of opportunity to explore the very best of Palma’s quality tapas. Numerous restaurants also offer special cocktails to accompany the tapas too! Bottoms up we say!
